I'm going to think of this as the "scrapbook" page, anything goes here. This is the stuff i didn't share for years. It seemed like a good idea to have a place to put my outcast songs. These may have been too morose, too long, poorly recorded, or ??? but i didn't hate them... some, like Juliette are really good songs. new! 5-23-10 I just digitized and re-mastered this original "Tight Shoes" song, from 1983, featured players are: Steve Stransky (guitar, lead vocal), Steve Erickson (solo guitar), Mel Mandeville (Bass guitar, vocal) and Lloyd Pool (Drums, vocal). Doug Rayburn, of Pavlov's Dog, Hi-Fi (and many more great bands), Recorded and Produced this one for us, called Hold on Tight (S.Stransky) new! Choices (Stransky/Taylor) 1998 new! Maturity (Stransky) - From an album that never happened, i was going to call Requiem for an Altruist... 14 years later Maturity is really bugging me! new! Wasteful Fires (Stransky) - This is pretty old, but i can't remember when i wrote it. Definite "Byrds" influence. new! Figures of Authority (Stransky) A good try at the hard rockin' story song. Nice guitar solo by Mark Black! new! Juliet (Stransky) a bit too lengthy, i guess i had a lot to say... but i like the way it takes you on a journey. new! Diametrically Opposed -Live (Stransky) at Club Broadway, Our big hit, live. new! Lucky Stars/Cold and Plastic (Stransky/Taylor) More, live at the Club Broadway i have some live recordings from "The Backstage" in Seattle, i will digitize someday... and a live tune Hugo and i wrote and played live with Steve Erickson in "Tight Shoes", in about 1984 new! darkness of night (Stransky/Taylor/Erickson) 1984
NEW! here is a short video of some of my oldest friends and me, jammin' in San Diego last summer. featuring Rick Randle singing "Walkin' the Dog. click on the pic...
I wanted to do a "Soul" album for years, so i finally did one in the last half of the 1980's. I freely admit that Otis Redding, Ray Charles and Sam Cooke influenced my overall vocal style sooooo much, and you can hear it here. I'm going to include a few from this album, "Listen", even though the recordings are old and quality is not exactly hi-fi, the songs have Heart and they have Soul, so they are "good music" in my book. I play all the parts and sing on this one, with a couple guest appearances by Hugo Taylor, Mike Firis and Steve Lee, on "Stormy Weather" and "Learn to Split". Stormy Weather (S.Stransky) This was my favorite cut, from this project, because of the good friends/musicians on the track. new! Learn to Split (S.Stransky) Another one from this project, that featured the playing of my good friends, Hugo Taylor, Vlad Ringo and Steve Lee on the track.
here are a few more clippings and pics:
